Doctors Hospital takes social responsibility as seriously as we take leadership in the healthcare industry.  Doctors Hospital is dedicated to identifying the unique health and educational needs of the community.  Our dedication is evident through the variety of free health fairs, health lectures, ambulance services, sponsorship, programs, and thousands of free screenings that are provided by the hospital as well as education about prevention, and stressing the importance of exercise, nutrition and lifestyle behaviors. Wellness Services

Health-Risk Appraisal

Determine your estimated longevity and probability of acquiring a disease with our computerized health questionnaire. Results are based on a collection of national averages for age and gender.

Meet with our registered dietitian to learn how to improve your health through proper nutrition or to discuss a specific nutrition problem.  Our nutritional counseling by a registered dietitian including a full review of your current diet and specific recommendations for improvement or weight management.  For more information call 302-4641.

Receive a massage by a licensed therapist. Ease away the stress of daily life and end your day with a relaxing therapeutic massage from our Rehabilitation Services Department.  For more information call 302-4653.

Health & Wellness Lectures

Ask our experts to present a seminar on a variety of health and wellness related topics to your community or professional organization. Or call to find out schedule for presentations at the Doctors Hospital Distinguished Lecture Series.

Lectures on a series of lifestyle issues, such as women’s health, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, smoking cessation, stress reduction, and weight management, are just a few of the topics, all part of your Lifestyle Management Program.  For more information call 302-4603.

Health Fairs

Let us plan and deliver a health fair for your organization or provide services to complement your health fair. Services can be provided at your workplace or at Doctors Hospital.  Screenings include glucose testing, cholesterol testing, BMI, weigh-ins, and blood pressure testing.  To arrange a health fair or for more information call 302-4603.

Support Groups

Sometimes patients and/or their families need special support that can often best be found in the company of others who are sharing a similar experience. The following are a range of special support groups, some through the Department of Social Services:

The AIDS Foundation of the Bahamas

The Zonta Club of Nassau, a group of professional women, formed the AIDS Foundation of the Bahamas in 1992. The AIDS Foundation of the Bahamas assists medical professionals treating HIV/AIDS by obtaining AZT for pregnant HIV+ women in hope of reducing mother-to-child transmission. The AIDS Foundation of The Bahamas introduced the AZT intervention program in 1995, providing critical medication and supplies to treat HIV-infected pregnant women in order to reduce the rate of mother to child transmission. Bahamas Association of Medical Technologists (BAMT)

The Bahamas Association of Medical Technologist (BAMT) is an integral part of the national committee responsible for hosting continuing education seminars. BAMT facilitates a phlebotomy-training programme producing certified ATM phlebotomists, and provides teaching opportunities for senior medical technologist. Meetings are open to all Medical Technologists, Phlebotomists and Laboratory personnel. The Association is affiliated with the American of Medical Technologist (AMT) and is a member of the Caribbean Association of Medical Technologists (CASMET).

Bahamas Dental Association

The Bahamas Dental Association is dedicated to promoting the public's health through its initiatives in research, education, advocacy, public awareness and the development of standards.

Bahamas Diabetic Association

The Bahamas Diabetic Association promotes the health of Bahamians through diabetes research, education, service and advocacy.

Bahamas Heart Association

The Heart Association is comprised primarily of family members of persons with heart disease that have been assisted by the Sir Victor Sassoon Bahamas Heart Foundation as well as volunteer members of the community. The Association’s goal is to increase public awareness and education about heart diseases. Annually, one of the major fundraisers for the foundation is The Bahamas Heart Ball. The Heart Association hosts other fundraisers, most of which take place during the observance of Heart health month including the Subway Fun Walk Run. All activities are intended to improve funding for heart ailments and also to provide public awareness so that people can avoid needless suffering.

Bahamas National Drug Council

Bahamas National Drug Council, an umbrella organization formed in 1984 to monitor the growing incidences of substance abuse. It partners with interdiction and prevention agencies such as the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Royal Bahamas Defense Force, the United States Embassy, and the Organization of American States, amongst others. Doctors Hospital Dr. Meyer Rassin Foundation

The Foundation was created in 1999 in honor of the late Dr. Meyer Rassin who serviced the healthcare needs of our community since 1942. He believed in and exemplified the importance that patients have the right to the very best care possible without financial constraints. The purpose of the Doctors Hospital Dr. Meyer Rassin Foundation is to positively affect our community by providing financial assistance to persons in need of medical treatment who are unable to afford it. The Foundation also provides scholarships and financial assistance to persons pursuing education in all areas of healthcare, as well as donates medical equipment to persons who may not otherwise have access to such equipment. The Dr. Meyer Rassin Foundation, P.O. Bahamas Red Cross Society

The Society offers a wide range of assistance to members of the community who suffer loss as a result of fire, hurricane or any other type of disasters and works as an Auxiliary to The Bahamas Government. The Annual Budget is financed through extensive fundraising, membership drive, donations and an Annual Government Grant. All services are free of costs, and the only criterion for delivery is that of need.
