DOCTORS HOSPITAL MAKES A DONATION TO THE BAHAMAS

CHILDREN’S EMERGENCY HOSTEL.
______________________________________________________

Each year Doctors Hospital makes a sizeable donation to The Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel in support of the tremendous job that they do abandoned and neglected children. They are aware that money for food, clothing, books and school items as well as maintenance and upkeep for the children can be quite expensive, so by adding to the Hostel’s fundraising efforts, Doctors Hospital by their annual donation, ensures that the hostel is equipped to continue to provide life-saving assistance to young children in distress.

Championed to be ‘our brother’s keeper’, The Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel was incorporated in April 1970, for the purpose of providing temporary accommodation, food, clothing, medical care and other necessities for the benefit of abandoned and neglected children, until more permanent arrangements could be made for their welfare. It is, a Home for children whose ‘biological’ environment has broken down, usually due to no fault of their own.

The Home is capable of housing approximately 35 children at any given time and is a charitable non-profit organization that strives on donations, and fundraising from the Church, Civic and Business Organizations, the Government, and individuals from the Private Sector. The Hostel receives a grant to subsidize its payroll costs but also relies heavily on donations from private individuals, church and civic organizations, as well as local small businesses, corporations and charitable foundations.  The operating costs to run the facility increase every year and making ends meet is always a challenge.

The Hostel provides residence for boys and girls, from the ages of 6 weeks through to 11 years. Children are admitted to the Hostel for a variety of reasons, and are often the victims of abuse and/or neglect by parents or caregivers, or have been orphaned or sent by the state to social services. All donations and gifts are accepted, including clothes, shoes, books and toys. School supplies, including books, stationary and school uniforms are often in need.

You can help the Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel by:
  • donating funds
  • donating supplies
  • lending a hand
  • sponsoring a project or an event
  • participating in their corporate fundraising program
  • participating in their charitable foundation program
If you are interested in providing a donation or would like more information about the Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel, please contact the Hostel directly at 361-1951.
