Dr. Meyer Rassin 
Foundation Scholarship

At Doctors Hospital, we believe in caring for the future of healthcare by supporting the next generation of Bahamian professionals. Through the Dr. Meyer Rassin Foundation, scholarships are awarded each year to students pursuing higher education in healthcare.

Eligible students must be enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 credits per semester) and submit all required documents. Applications are due by March 31, and only successful candidates will be contacted.

Doctors Hospital’s Institute of Learning (DH IOL) is a post-secondary institution dedicated to preparing The Bahamas’ workforce for success. Our programmes are designed to build confidence and career readiness through high-quality instruction, programme readiness courses and professional development opportunities. Learners benefit from trained faculty, modern teaching methods and a supportive environment that encourages growth.

DH IOL is registered with the National Accreditation and Equivalency Council of The Bahamas (NAECOB).

Spring 2026: 

The Phlebotomy Technician course introduces the knowledge and skills required to perform venipuncture and prepare blood samples for laboratory testing. Successful students receive local and international certification as a Phlebotomy Technician.

Key Details

The Intravenous Insertion Certification programmeme builds skills in IV insertion, fluid administration and fluid maintenance. Participants review fluid composition, vascular access devices and types of IV therapy, then demonstrate IV insertion, therapy and removal according to best practice guidelines. Successful students receive local and international certification.

Summer 2026: 

The Pharmacy Technician course prepares learners with the knowledge and skills needed to become proficient pharmacy technicians and pursue a career in pharmacy. On successful completion of the course, students sit the Certified Pharmacy Technician certification exam.

Key Details 

The CMAA course provides the skills needed to manage front office tasks in a healthcare setting, including medical office management, appointment scheduling, medical records, introductory coding, billing, collections and practice finances. On successful completion, students are eligible to sit the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant certification exam. 

The first six weeks include the mandatory prerequisite Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology, delivered as self-paced sessions. In person lab sessions are held on Saturdays, with two options explained during orientation.

Key Details 

The Telemetry Technician programmeme prepares candidates to function as Certified Telemetry and Cardiac Monitor Technicians. The curriculum covers cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, ECG monitoring and rhythm interpretation, and effective communication with the healthcare team. Successful students receive local and international certification.

The CCMA programmeme equips students to perform administrative and clinical duties in an ambulatory healthcare setting. On completion, students sit an international certification exam to become Certified Clinical Medical Assistants. 
The first six weeks include the mandatory prerequisite Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology, delivered as self-paced sessions, with Saturday lab options explained during orientation.

Key Details 

This programmeme prepares candidates to become Patient Care Technicians who provide patient centred care and promote safe practice in a professional, ethical manner. The course includes First Aid, Basic Life Support and introductions to intravenous therapy, phlebotomy and electrocardiography, and prepares students for the Certified Patient Care Technician exam. 

The first six weeks include the mandatory prerequisite Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology, with Saturday lab options explained during orientation.

The Medical Billing and Coding Certification Programme provides the knowledge and skills in ICD 10 diagnosis and procedure codes required for employment as a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist. On completion, students sit the Certified Medical Billing and Coding exam. 
The first six weeks include the mandatory prerequisite Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology, with Saturday lab options explained during orientation.

This course trains participants to provide basic first aid in a safe, timely and effective manner. Successful participants receive a course completion e-card from the American Heart Association which is valid for 2 years.
This course trains participants to give CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Successful participants receive a course completion e-card from the American Heart Association which is valid for 2 years. 
This course trains participants to provide first aid, CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely and effective manner. Successful participants receive a course completion e-card from the American Heart Association which is valid for 2 years.
A self-directed, comprehensive eLearning programme that uses adaptive learning technology to allow learners to acquire BLS skills using a personalised learning path that adapts in real time to a learner’s performance. The course trains participants to promptly recognise several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an AED. The programme is designed for healthcare professionals for their clinical duties and consist of a cognitive portion that is completed online, and a complete hands-on skills session that is completed in-person. Successful participants receive a course completion e-card from the American Heart Association which is valid for 2 years.
The ACLS Provider Course is an instructor-led training course designed to improve the outcome for adult patients of cardiac arrest and other cardiopulmonary emergencies. The AHA’s ACLS course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. The course also includes assessments and treatment for patients with cardiac arrhythmias, stroke, acute coronary syndrome, and post-cardiac arrest care. Successful participants receive a course completion e-card from the American Heart Association which is valid for 2 years. 
The PALS Provider Course aims to improve outcomes for paediatric patients by preparing healthcare providers to effectively recognise and intervene in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest by using high‐performance team dynamics and high‐quality individual skills. The course includes a series of case scenario practices with simulations that reinforce important concepts. Successful participants receive a course completion e-card from the American Heart Association which is valid for 2 years.

Community Service
High school students can complete their graduation service requirements in non-clinical areas. Apply by emailing cnewbold@doctorshosp.com.
The Student Temporary Employment Programme gives tertiary students who are studying towards a healthcare degree a month-long rotation in the hospital environment. Participants shadow professionals, learn more about their chosen field and gain exposure to other clinical areas. Application timelines may vary each year. Refer to the current S.T.E.P. listing above or contact DH IOL for details.
Limited nonclinical positions are available each summer for students who wish to gain workplace experience in a hospital setting. Applications are typically accepted from October to December in the year prior.
