How do I know if I need the ER?

Come to the ER for serious injuries such as broken bones, deep cuts, burns, head or neck injuries, or for illnesses with severe symptoms like chest pain, difficulty breathing, repeated vomiting, fainting, sudden severe pain, or allergic reactions. When in doubt, always err on the side of caution.

What should I bring?

Bring your health insurance card, a list of your current medications, and any relevant medical records.

Where is the ER located?

Doctors Hospital Emergency Room is on the main floor at #1 Collins Avenue. Drop patients at the main entrance for direct transport to triage. Parking is nearby with support from our Security and Welcome Desk teams.

What should I expect on arrival?

You’ll first be assessed by a nurse during triage. Depending on the severity of your condition, you may be treated immediately, asked to wait briefly, or admitted for further care.

How long will I wait?

We always treat the sickest patients first, regardless of when they arrived. If your condition worsens while waiting, notify our team immediately.

Can my family visit me?

For space and safety, we allow one visitor per patient inside the ER. Additional visitors can wait in the nearby waiting area.

What if I think I’m having a stroke?

Call 919 or 302-4747 immediately. Remember to act F.A.S.T.:

Face: drooping?
Arms: unable to lift?
Speech: slurred?
Time: call right away.
Quick action can save lives and reduce long-term damage.

Can I take photos of my loved one?

For patient privacy, photography is not allowed inside the ER.
