Your Questions Answered

Maternity Care FAQs

How long will my baby and I stay in hospital?
Normal delivery usually 24 hours; Caesarean Section typically 48 hours, assuming both mother and baby are healthy.
Pre-register with the Patient Registration Department; expectant mothers who pre-register are escorted directly to the maternity floor on arrival.
Recommended to begin pre-registration any time after your 28th week (7th month).
Go straight to the 24/7 Doctors Hospital Emergency Room.
From 34 weeks, pack a bag. Lists are provided for mother (birth plan, night dresses, nursing bras, etc.) and baby (receiving blankets, hats, going-home outfit, etc.), along with what not to bring (linens, sanitary pads, pampers).
Bonding between parents and newborns is initiated immediately after delivery. Once the mother is ready to rest, the infant is taken to our well baby nursery to be attended by a team of experienced healthcare professionals. The nursery can accommodate up to 12 babies, features three isolettes (baby warmers) and a portable unit for transferring babies to the special care unit if needed.
The Maternity Ward has a dedicated floor of private and semi-private patient rooms right across the hall from the nursery. Our newly renovated rooms include a private television/web portal at each bedside and a single bathroom. Post-delivery, mothers will be transferred to one of the patient rooms to bond with their baby and get some much-needed rest.
If you have a scheduled or emergency Caesarean Section, a trained midwife, pediatrician, obstetrician, and anesthesiologist will accompany you to the operating room. After your delivery, our midwives will provide you with the highest quality of care to assist in your recovery.
Varies by insurance; patients are directed to call the Patient Registration Department for a quote.
Two people in the delivery room; afterwards, one visitor at a time during visiting hours (11 am–2 pm, 4 pm–8 pm). Visitors with illness symptoms are not allowed.
