Nassau, The Bahamas — Doctors Hospital Health System welcomed a delegation from the Turks and Caicos Islands, led by the Honourable Kyle Knowles, Minister of Health and Human Services, during a visit to The Bahamas from May 18–22, 2026.
The visit explored opportunities for enhanced collaboration between Doctors Hospital Health System and the Turks and Caicos Islands Ministry of Health and Human Services. The delegation included Permanent Secretary Desiree Lewis, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nadia Astwood, NHIB Interim CEO Dr. Pharez George, and Head of Secretariat Marah Smith.

During the visit, officials toured Doctors Hospital’s Nassau campus, gaining insight into its Joint Commission International (JCI)-accredited operations, advanced diagnostic capabilities, and interventional cardiovascular services. The itinerary also included visits to Kavala Medical Centre in Eight Mile Rock, the future site of Doctors Hospital’s new 70,000-square-foot facility in Grand Bahama, and Western Atlantic University School of Medicine, where discussions focused on medical education, clinical training, and healthcare workforce development.
Dennis Deveaux, Chief Executive Officer of Doctors Hospital Health System, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting healthcare access in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
“As Doctors Hospital Health System makes major strides to transform healthcare capacity and accessibility within The Bahamas, we are also growing our ability and renewing relationships to serve the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands,” said Mr. Deveaux.
“Bahamians also expect that we will (and indeed we must) make some essential upgrades in our Nassau-based main facility, while simultaneously positioning our growing capabilities in key specialty areas—cardiology, oncology, and obstetrics and gynecology—to be of value to neighbouring communities.”
